One person behind the app. Here is why it exists, and what problem it sets out to solve.

The problem I wanted to solve

I planned a motorhome road trip several times before creating Road Trip Planner. And every time, the same conclusion: the existing tools do not answer the right questions.

Conventional tools think in kilometres

"Paris–Marseille, 780 km, 7 h 30 of driving." Fine. But in a motorhome with children, you do not drive 7 h 30 a day. And you have no idea where you will sleep, where to stop, or what there is to see along the way. You have to open Google Maps, then a campsite directory, then TripAdvisor, then the weather. Pile up the tabs. Lose an evening.

The idea for Road Trip Planner was born of that frustration. I wanted a tool that starts from one simple question: "how many hours are you willing to drive per day?". From there, the app splits your journey into realistic stages and automatically looks around each stage for campsites, service areas, charging points and points of interest.

One screen. One search. An itinerary that takes your vehicle, your pace and what you actually want to see into account.

The principles that guide the app

Road Trip Planner is published by Phénix Tech, the company I founded in Salon-de-Provence. These principles apply to every technical decision.

🎯

Start from hours, not kilometres

Time spent at the wheel is the real constraint of a road trip, not the theoretical distance.

🗺️

Everything on a single map

Accommodation, points of interest and charging points: no more 5 tabs open side by side.

Your data is yours

Simple, fast, frictionless

Zero over-engineering. The interface should serve the trip, not the other way round.

Why just one person?

Road Trip Planner is built by one person: me. No team, no startup, no fundraising. It is a craft project, made the old-fashioned way: written line by line, deployed on infrastructure I control, with no middleman.

This choice has its limits: new features ship more slowly than with a team of ten. But it has one virtue: every technical decision is made to serve the user, with no compromise for an investor or an advertising algorithm. If you want to talk about it, you can reach me through the links below.
